Believe
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts and Rich Beretta
Arranged by James A Manno
I wrote the song Believe for my Aunt Cathie when her breast cancer returned as bone cancer in 2007. She lived every day with a smile, and her favorite saying was “Life is Good”… Even on her darkest days. She always was, and will always be, a huge inspiration in my life. Cathie made her journey home on January 2, 2011. I miss her smile, laughter and gregarious spirit… How lucky I was to have her in my life. She was like a second Mom to me.

When the road ahead seems long and you don't know where to turn
Lift your eyes and look up to the heavens. When the walls are closing in, just take a walk outside Behold all the beauty He has given. Just breathe the air And plant the seed The rose will bloom If you believe Just smile and light the way Know tomorrow brings a brand new day Dance. Dance and Sing Believe in you. Believe in you to do anything. 'Cause I believe in you. |
If you feel a touch of fear, as you wonder what's ahead
Be at peace and know that He will guide you If you feel you're all alone in this journey you've begun Remember friends are always there beside you Just breathe the air And plant the seed The rose will bloom If you believe Believe. Believe… Believe. Believe… Believe. Believe Just smile and light the way Know tomorrow brings a brand new day Dance, Dance and Sing Believe in you. Believe in you to do anything. 'Cause I believe in you..... I Believe. |
Listen
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts and Alberto Fernandez
Arranged by James A Manno
Backup vocals – Nolan Doran, Julie Ellis and Clare Leonard
I wrote Listen in the fall of 2007. I had just spent the summer singing in the subways after losing my job, and I was trying to figure out my path and direction in life. This song is about following your heart and your inner voice in the midst of chaos. I finally feel like I am on my destined path, and I am attaining all the things I always wanted. It took a while, but I got here! I hope this song inspires you as you follow your dreams and inner voice.

Listen. Listen to your heart
Listen as it pulses in refrain Feel it. Music from afar Breaking thru in thunder and in rain I can hear you… Rushing thru the trees A voice of distant reason lighting fire in me I can see you… In every setting sun Illuminating beauty into one Chorus Find the peace in your soul Find a place you can breathe Follow intuition Set your soul free Find the hope in your heart Let it stir from within Abandon your defenses Let this journey begin |
Listen. Listen to your dream
Listen to it. Never let it fade Feel it. Passion flowing free Burning to reveal the path you crave I can see you. Crashing thru the sand Ebbing tide receding breaking free from the land I can hear you. In every passing breeze Whispering from stages yet unseen Chorus Forget all your sorrow. This is your moment to live.. Believe in tomorrow. Feel your spirit and live…. Release inhibition. Step out of the darkness and live.. Let it come to fruition… Follow your dream and live…. Chorus Listen to your heart. Feel it in your soul now Listen to you heart. Relinquish all control now. Just Listen |
All That I Can
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts
Arranged by James A Manno and Mark D Taylor
I wrote All That I Can for my Dad when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in October of 2009. My dad was larger than life, but his cancer diagnosis really crushed his contagiously optimistic spirit. I wrote this song, hoping it would uplift him and help him to rally. I had planned to play and sing it for him the night he passed, January 22, 2010, just 3 months after his diagnosis. Instead, I recorded it at home in Gurley, Nebraska to be played at his memorial service. That time is a total blur… He was taken from us so suddenly and way too soon. It was the most painful time of my life, but somehow God gave Mom and me the strength to carry on. I have found him to be quite an active angel… just as supportive in my life from the other side as he was when he was here. I miss him every day, but I know he is always with me… Always…

I wish I could take away your pain
Wash it all away like rain You’ve been dealt a card you never thought you’d have to play. I wish I could take away your fear Just know that I am here In the darkest of hours I’ll help you find your way. And I’ll do all that I can to help you And I’ll do all that I can to guide you through this storm You are stronger than you believe Just find it deep within And I know you’ll win it in the end. |
You’ve always been stronger in my eyes
Never let a dream pass you by You’ve always believed you could do anything you tried. Now you must find that strength again I know that you can Don’t you ever give up. Now you have to take a stand. And I’ll do all that I can to help you And I’ll do all that I can to guide you through this storm You are stronger than you believe Just find it deep within And I know you’ll win it in the end. (repeat chorus) Yes I know you’ll win it in the end. |
In the Midst of the Angels
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts
Arranged by James A Manno, Phelder St. Germain and Jordan Jancz
Guitar and backup vocals – Phelder St. Germain
Cello – Jordan Jancz and Christine Sweet
I wrote In the Midst of the Angels in the months following my Dad’s passing. I stayed at home on the farm with Mom for almost 4 months to try to make some sense of all that was dropped in her lap when he passed so suddenly. He was my biggest fan, always bragging about me to anyone who would listen. The day I recorded this song was a surreal experience. The first time I sang through it in the studio I became very light headed and dizzy. I could feel his presence so strong in the room with me. After I finished the first take, I looked out on the lawn and there were about 100 or more robins lined up looking into the studio at me. It was unbelievable and magical. This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. It speaks to the kind of man he was and the life he led. He lived his dreams and now I am living mine.

You always were there
There with a smile There with a tender hand. You always believed Believed all the while Helping me understand That life is meant to be lived There no time to waste Each day is a gift Chorus In the midst of the angels you walk silently Ever close to me In the midst of the angels Right beside me In my time of need In the midst of the angels |
I look to you now
Now in a way Different than yesterday Now I feel your love Guiding me thru Chasing my fears away And I will answer this call There’s no turning back I know I won’t fall Chorus Your smile, it shines for me Your joy inspires me to be more I want to live every day Live just the way you lived yours With passion and happiness Courage and strength I’ll make you proud of me, honor your memory On your wings I will soar Chorus |
Thank You
Music and Lyrics – Brooke McRoberts and Mark D Taylor
Arranged by Mark D Taylor and James A Manno
I wrote Thank You for my Mom and Dad around Christmas in 2006. I had the two most supportive and loving parents on the planet, and I wanted to let them know how much I appreciated their incredible love. When I decided to pursue music in NYC over medical school, they both supported me whole-heartedly. They believed in me and my talent way more than I believed in myself. They came to every event and show throughout my life. How lucky can one girl be? Pretty lucky I guess. I love you Mom and Dad.

How can I thank you for all the love you’ve brought into my life?
And how can I thank you? When I’m in need, you’re always by my side. You’ve been there thru heartache, like a warm summer day Drying tears after the rain You. You give me hope. You give me strength You picked me up when I needed you most of all. You are my light, my treasure from above. How could I ever repay your love? How can I thank you for believing when I could not for myself And how can I thank you? Bear my burdens and put yours on the shelf Steady hands to guide me thru this unscripted play Helping me to write my own way. |
You. You give me hope. You give me strength
You picked me up when I needed you most of all. You are my light, my treasure from above. How could I ever repay your love? Every day I find myself remembering to give myself, To all the ones who now depend on me. Instill in them the wisdom and the courage To become the someone, Like the someone you’ve inspired in me. You. You give me hope. You give me strength You picked me up when I needed you most of all. I have been blessed, my treasure from above. How could I ever repay your love? (repeat chorus - ad lib) |
Here in This Moment
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts
Arranged by Mark D Taylor and James A Manno
I wrote Here in This Moment in the fall of 2006. I went through a few bouts of depression over the years, and I always seemed to write lots of sad love songs. However, when I returned from my stint singing on Royal Caribbean cruise lines, I felt a calling to write music that was more inspirational in nature. I was working with a songwriting collaborator who gave me an assignment to write something happy. A happy love song?!? Ok I said. I will try. So this is what came to be. The only way I could see writing a happy love song at the time was to write a wedding song. Since then I have sung it for about 4 dear friends’ weddings. I hope you enjoy this happy love song!

Here in this moment, as we stand here face to face
I see that all my dreams are coming true And here in this moment, as I feel your warm embrace I know the one I’ve waited for is you. I’ve never felt like this before, I’ve never felt so right I see so much love as I look into your eyes I feel like I’m flying. I’m flying on the wings of angels I’m flying. And nothing in this world can bring me down. You have been there for me You’ve shared with me your life, your heart, your love. And here in this moment Our hearts become one. |
Here in this moment, I entrust you with my heart
I pledge to you my love. I will be true. And here in this moment, as we make a brand new start I promise every day to stand with you. I’ll be your friend. I’ll make you smile. I’ll be there to dry your eyes. You’ve brought me so much joy, and I need you by my side. I feel like I’m flying. I’m flying on the wings of angels I’m flying. And nothing in this world can bring me down. You have been there for me You shared with me your life, your heart, your love. And here in this moment Our hearts become one. |
Angel
Music and Lyrics by Brooke McRoberts
Arranged by Mark D Taylor and James A Manno
Angel was the first song I ever wrote… way back in the late 90’s. The summer before I moved to NYC in 1994, I lost my high school boyfriend, Travis Reimers, in a tragic accident back home in Nebraska. I had many crazy, amazing and unexplainable things happen to me in the early years in NYC, and I always attributed those signs to my angel Travis. He was the first person I lost who gave me so many signs from Heaven, that he was still around and with me. I knew he was ok. Since then I have always looked for signs from loved ones. When Dad passed, his signs were so big there was no denying them. I am sad I lost so many loved ones so young, but I am thankful for the love they continue to share with me from the other side.

I look into the sky and all I see is you smiling.
The full moon’s shining bright tonight And I know you’re here with me. It seems to me that God always takes the ones we love the most. But even though you’re gone from sight You’re always in my heart. As I walk through life and I face the world alone, I know you’re always there for me, helping me face adversity. Any time or place. I close my eyes and see your face. As it was when you were here. I know you’re always near. You’re my guide. You’re my strength. You’re my angel. Sometimes in my life, things don’t always go right. At the time I just don’t understand, though I try with all my might. But the one I know for sure, is my shining star will guide me. To find a better way, to make a brighter day. |
As I walk through life and I face the world alone,
I know you’re always there for me, helping me face adversity. Any time or place. I close my eyes and see your face. As it was when you were here. I know you’re always near. You’re my guide. You’re my strength. You’re my angel. When I’m weak, you pull me through When I’m crying I look to you It’s hard to describe this feeling inside When I know you’re there to guide me You never know what you’ve got til it’s gone But my love for you goes on. Oh I know you’re safe and free, and you’re always there for me. As I walk through life and I face the world alone, I know you’re always there for me, helping me face adversity. Any time or place. I close my eyes and see your face. As it was when you were here. I know you’re always near. You’re my guide. You’re my strength. You’re my angel. Oh my Angel. My angel. My angel. |
Breathe
Music and Lyrics by Marie Barnett
Recorded LIVE at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New York City
Rasaan Bourke – Piano and Arrangement
Breathe is the only track on the album that I didn’t write. I had to include it though, as it’s one of my favorite songs to sing and listen to. The words are so simple, yet so meaningful. I recorded this with my little “brother” Rasaan at our beloved church in NYC. Rasaan came up with this free form arrangement and we just loved every minute of it. This song transports me to another place and has brought me deep peace, even during times when my soul was troubled. I hope this song will bring you rest for your soul as well.
